Boston Bollywood is seeking disciplined adult dancers (18+) for its season eight performance. Experience in some form of dance is required. Due to the nature of auditions, prior registration is mandatory. All registered dancers will be taught 45-60 seconds of choreography in each category of auditions -- Bollywood/Contemporary and Semi-classical. At the end of auditions, dancers will be expected to perform the choreography in groups. Contemporary/Lyrical style pieces will be offered this season. To participate in these pieces, you are required to do the Bollywood/Contemporary Audition.
What to wear? Please wear comfortable workout clothes. Avoid denim jeans as they can restrict movement.
At auditions, we will judge dancers' ability to learn new choreography and their performance will be used to determine level placements.
Level Placements Level placement will be determined based on the following criteria:
* Precision (Timing, correctness of moves, crispness of lines and angles) * Energy while maintaining correct precision * Grace (Ability to replicate style)
Notes: For Bollywood/Contemporary auditions, dancers will be placed in one of 5 levels. For Semi-classical category dances, at the end of the auditions, choreographers will choose dancers for their dances. Contemporary/Lyrical dances this season will take Bollywood/Contemporary levels.
All level placements will be final.
* IMPORTANT Notes:
* You MUST attend ONLY one of the Bollywood/Contemporary audition slots. * You MUST attend ONLY one of the Semi-classical audition slots. * You MUST attend ONLY one of the Info Sessions.
All dancers new to Boston Bollywood MUST attend at least one of the info sessions. Details about tuition structure, piece signup, tech/dress rehearsal, show day, and the dancer contract will be discussed in this session.
Any dancer who did not participate in season seven must audition to participate in season eight. Dancers who participated in season seven who want to audition for a higher level placement may also participate. This does not guarantee a higher level placement. Dancers who participated in Season Seven need not re-audition in person or via mail-in audition. However, they must fill the registration form and pick the "Video Mail-In Option" even if they don't plan on submitting a video.
If you are selected as a choreographer in season eight and you wish to participate in other dances (pieces) in season eight, you are required to participate in Dancer Auditions either in person or via Mail-in Video audition option.
What if I can't make Dancer Auditions?
If you are unable to attend auditions in person and would like to be considered for Season eight, you can audition via sending a video. In order to audition via video, you must:
Register online by completely filling the audition form (see section above) and select the “Video Mail-In Audition” option in the “Audition Categories & Locations” section of the registration form. Deadline to registration has been extended to 7 PM, August 26 (EST).
All registered dancers who have chosen the "Video Mail-in audition option" will be emailed a video link on August 26 by 12 PM EST / 7 PM EST (in case of late registration). In order to receive this video link, please ensure that you enter the correct email address in the registration form. The video will contain 45-60 seconds of choreography. Learn the choreography in the video in its entirety on your own. (1-2 hours of practice should be sufficient to learn the choreography.)
Tape yourself doing the choreography in one take. Cell phone cameras are sufficient to take these videos.
Upload the video to YouTube as an unlisted video. Here’s a tutorial on how to upload a video and make it unlisted.
Send the video link to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Boston Bollywood Season Eight Video Mail-In Audition” by 11:59 PM August 28. Include your full name and phone number in the email.
Any dancer registered for "Video Mail-In option" who also participates in auditions in person will be IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED from Season Eight.
Those who attend auditions in person will be given preference for higher levels or casting in semi-classical pieces over mail-in video auditions.
If you have participated in previous seasons of Boston Bollywood, your performance and work ethic in previous seasons will be taken into account in deciding your levels. However, please keep in mind that your participation in specialty (semi-classical) pieces in previous seasons does not guarantee casting in similar pieces in Season Eight.
